Hairs are a unique characteristic of mammals and have several functions, from the protection of the skin to sexual and social communication which makes “prevent hair loss” a major agenda. Consisting of a tough protein called keratin, hairs in humans follow a specific growth cycle. Hair loss and reduced hair growth are two of the most common problems, mostly urban population faces today. Nutrition along with good hair hygiene may lead to the absolute reversal of any two given conditions. – prevent hair loss.
Under the influence of a hormone testosterone(higher levels found in males) the normal cycle of hair growth changes, resulting in shorter, thinner, or “miniaturized” hair. Eventually, hair growth in certain parts of the scalp stops entirely, which causes the typical pattern of hair loss. Contrary to the folk wisdom that baldness is inherited from one’s mother’s family, the condition seems to depend on genes contributed by both parents.
Certain medications (cancer, high blood pressure, arthritis, depression, heart problems), Drugs cause hair loss by interfering with the normal cycle of scalp hair growth.
Stress can push hair follicles into a ‘resting’ phase so that they don’t produce new hair strands. Over time, hair can fall out more easily, even if you’re just washing, combing, or touching it. Stress also impacts digestion and your body’s absorption of vital nutrients.
The first trimester may stress the body as the balance of hormones shifts dramatically to support the growing baby. Stress may put more of the hairs on your head, 30 percent or more, into the telogen or ‘resting’ phase of the hair life cycle. So, instead of losing the average 100 hairs a day, you may lose 300 hairs a day.
This differs in every individual. Some women may not experience hair loss at all while some women may experience it due to rising levels of androgen hormones.
Lack of hair hygiene causes accumulation of dust and other pollutants or may cause fungal infections leading to hair loss. Shampooing or blow-drying too frequently, repeatedly using heated styling tools, pulling on hair — whether from blow-drying it or styling it in a too-tight ponytail, for instance — or too vigorously rubbing the scalp can all lead to hair loss.
Nutrition lacking in protein, iron, A, B and C vitamins, biotin, zinc, and copper leads to hair loss. Because hair is a non-essential tissue, it is often the first thing to suffer if your body is lacking in nutrients.
Take ¼ cup of unboiled milk and add ½ tsp fenugreek seed powder and ½ tsp of honey. Mix well, apply throughout your scalp for 10-12 minutes before washing.
Mash banana with honey/curd (optional). Mix well. Apply throughout the hair and leave it as a mask for 15-20 minutes. Wash thoroughly with shampoo.
Take 2 cups of whey water (Water left behind when cottage cheese/paneer is made). Then, pour it on hairs just like water and leave for 5-7 minutes after shampooing and then clean with normal water completely. No need to apply conditioner.
